Bio
~ Character Info ~
Name: Russell Tringham
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Fandom: FullMetal Alchemist
OU or AU: AU
Preference: Bisexual/Confused

Appearance: Russell is a tall youth, handsome and with a very cool air. He has blonde hair with bangs that intentionally cover half of his face. He has sharp gray eyes, and the most common expression on his face is a smirk (especially when dealing with Edward).

His everyday clothes consist of brown pants, a white button up shirt, and suspenders, but since he became a state alchemist, he can also be seen often in the blue military uniform. Unfortunately for Russell, he arrives in Econtra in his pajamas- matching green plaid top and bottoms.

Personality: Russell puts on the front of being a cold, distant person and in general, he has a very calm personality. He is not easily angered or made upset, because he does not let many people get close to him. Despite his occasional "holier-than-thou" attitude, Russell is not too proud to ask for help when he needs it (e.g. he willingly contacted Mustang for advice/assistance on becoming a State Alchemist). Overall, I perceive him to have a rather indifferent demeanor, in that he is not wont to show emotions (I see him as being a rather reclusive figure, partially because of the way he parts his hair: half his face is covered by bangs, and he uses this as a defense mechanicism, so he doesn't give anything away.) Russell is prone to secrecy (again, the bangs is a physical manifestation of this characteristic) that comes about from his ability to easily assume the name of someone else *coughedwardcough*.

Russell's weaknesses include his desire to take all the responsibilty, to do things all on his own, to shoulder all of the burden. Fletcher, his younger brother, is another of Russell's weaknesses, and in fact, both usually go hand-in-hand with each other. Russell is given to wanting to protect his brother, to provide for them, and overall take care of everything for Fletcher. Russell does not see these actions as being smothering and would be shocked to hear if Fletcher felt caged in by his older brother's obsessive protection.

History: Russell was born in Central, the first son of alchemist Nash Tringham. When Russell was two years old, his brother Fletcher was born, and good thing for Russell that he was, because otherwise it would have been a very lonely childhood for him. Their father, Nash, was constantly in the lab at home, performing researcxh, while their mother was hardly ever at home. As a result, Russell and Fletcher spent much of their childhood together.

Now, when Russell was born, his father had just begun his research on red water. When Fletcher came along, he was already well into working with the substance. Nash didn't know then, however, the effect that red water had on humans, and when his second child was born with an incurable cough, he didn't make the correlation between that and his work. Because of this, he continued to work on red water in their home, and Fletcher remained a delicate child as he grew up. Russell, being a concerned big brother, took good care of Fletcher, making sure he did agitate his sickness.

When Russell was about seven years old, one day his father took him and Fletcher aside and made them promise never to use alchemy. Russell and Fletcher had just started to gain an interest in te science, but because they loved their father, they promised. That same day, Nash Tringham was gone. They would never see their father again.

After their father left, Russell and Fletcher were really all each other had, as their mother was hardly ever around. And when Russell was 13, she died one night in a car crash. After that, Russell decided that he would go look for their father. They had heard of his hometown Xenotime a few times from Nash, and so he decided to start there. Fletcher, of course, came with him.

When they arrived at Xenotime, they discovered that their father, Nash, had been there years before, only to disappear about a year or so ago. At the time, he had been working for a man named Mugear, and so Russell decided that they would go complete their father's work, in the hopes that working on their father's project would lead them to him. Disguising themselves as the Elric brothers, they were hired by Mugear, and Russell found themselves working with red water. Russell was smart and easily picked up on the science he had promised his father he would never perform. Russell told Fletcher that he would be the only one to break their promise though.

For months, Russell worked for Mugear under the name Edward Elric, working to create a Philosopher's Stone for Xenotime. While he was busy with his work, Russell overlooked the hazardous effect the red water had on humans. He was aware that it was not safe to breathe in the fumes, but he failed to make the connection between the red water and his own brother's illness, or he would have never let Fletcher in the lab with him, or for that matter continued with his research.

As it was, eventually the real Elric brothers arrived in Xenotime and revealed Russell and Fletcher as the frauds they were. They also showed Russell that he had failed to pay attention to Fletcher, who had tried many times to tell his brother that what they were doing was wrong, and that it was hurting the people of the town they were trying to help. After seeing what the real Edward was doing for his brother, Al, and seeing what a better brother Ed was than Russell, he lost confidence in himself for awhile, even after the Elrics left.

When the Elrics revealed that Russell and Fletcher were the imposters, they were shunned by most of Xenotime, whose hopes had been riding on the creation of a Philosopher's Stone. But with the disposal of the red water, that was impossible now. Russell wanted to leave town, but Belsio gave them a job in his orchards, and since Fletcher wanted to stay in town (despite the constant exposure to the red water, the Xenotime air was doing wonders for his brother's health), Russell took up the job. They worked there for a few months, until one day the brothers came across some notes in their father's research journal that would help the Elrics in their quest. Russell was reluctant to see Edward again, but Fletcher wanted to go...and so they went into Central.

After a few little adventures (including being placed in jail, and then breaking out of jail), they found Edward and gave him the information they found, about an underground city that overnight had vanished...possibly because a Philosopher's Stone had been created there. After seeing Edward to the entrance of the underground city, Russell, in a moment of foresight, told him to come back alive, as though he knew that this was the last time he would ever see Edward.

When Edward didn't return after many hours- and Russell waited for him, knowing that he wasn't coming- Russell went down into the city, Fletcher- despite Russell's protests- at his side. There they found Al and a girl named Rose. Russell and Fletcher took them in and helped Alphonse regain his health- after all, he hadn't had his body for years, and it took some getting used to. Once Al was well, he and Rose left for Risembool. by this time, the Tringhams had been in Central for months and Russell decided that he would become a State Alchemist. Seeing the cost that Edward had paid to succeed in bring his brother's body back had shown him that he too needed to make a sacrifice for his own precious brother, who still was in fragile health, worsened by the city fumes.

About three months later, Russell took the State Alchemist exam and passed. He was given the title Arcanum Alchemist, and was able to receive grants to research a cure to red water sickness. He's been working on it for nearly two years now- unfortunately, his lab was recently damaged, thanks to Edward returning from the beyond and bringing a whole army with him. Thankfully, most of his research was not harmed, and what was broken is easily replacable (except for that one wall that caved in...). Unfortunately, Russell was brought to Renatus before his lab was complete, waking up one morning and finding himself in an unfamiliar place.
